His works differ from contemporary Chinese Artists whose works are often a caustic appraisal of Chinese politics and history. Instead, Artist Xie’s work projects balance and harmony and it frequently betrays his humorous spirit. If you look carefully you will notice his characters’ eyes bare the imprint of the Yin and Yang symbol. His subjects include Buddha, terracotta soldiers, opera singers, political leaders, and small creatures imbued with inner peace.

Musashi on the Back of Whale, Canvas Tote Bag
This canvas tote bag has a design inspired by the work of Artist Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1797-1861), titled Musashi on the Back of Whale. He was one of the last great masters of the Japanese ukiyo-e style of woodblock prints and paintings. He is known for depictions of the battles of legendary samurai heroes. Hence the image of Miyamoto Musashi plunging his sword into a giant whale. His artwork incorporates aspects of Western representation in landscape painting and caricature.
